Read My Conversion Story

Currently Reading

D.G.D.: The latest collection of winning stories from the annual contest; the writers are all brand new and in my past experience, the stories are consistently strong.

D.G.D.: I always fret when reading something like this that I'm not getting the best version, but I suppose the Brothers Grimm don't have a definitive version anyway since they edited their own work so many times. One way or the other, this edition has nice binding, gold-gilt pages, and the promise of containing all the stories--except I think it's missing "Bluebeard."

Snuffles: Let's see...snobby upper-class high school, check. Mysterious exclusive club run by bratty rich girl, check. Awkward new girl with magic powers, check. Hot guy, check. Yep, the clichés are all there! Still, it seems to be good-hearted and reasonably decent.

Currently Watching

Snuffles: The nuns-with-guns cartoon against which all others must be measured, for good or ill. Set in the 1920s, featuring a young pistol-packing nun and her (reformed) demon companion who try to stop a rogue demon from remaking the world. Draws heavily on Catholicism, but the metaphysics of the Chrono Crusade universe are all over the place and not really coherent. Has good emotional moments, excellent action, and interesting "cinematography." Flops from humor to drama rapidly but effectively, though occasionally mixes in decidedly misplaced crudities.
